Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) | Promote Change & Growth

What is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an approach that is used in psychotherapy to help you come to terms with emotions, behaviours and cognitive processes that are maladaptive and dysfunctional.

CBT is a problem focused and an action oriented therapy in which you are helped through processing your maladaptive emotions, behaviours, and cognitive processes through talk-therapy. This allows for you and I to work together to develop and model adjustive emotions, behaviours and cognitive processes in triggering situations.

CBT is used in the treatment of a variety of conditions, including

  • Mood Disorders (i.e Depression)
  • Anxiety Disorders (i.e. OCD)
  • Personality Disorders (i.e Borderline Personality Disorder)
  • Eating Disorders (i.e. Anorexia)
  • Substance abuse
  • Psychotic disorders (i.e. Schizophrenia)

CBT has been favoured in some cases as the choice therapy to promote change and growth in the individual. CBT is a technique that I guide that promotes structure and maintaining forward movement within you. This structure and connection between you and I will hopefully allow you to feel less vulnerable and more open to trying new behaviours. By focusing on the “here” and “now”, CBT provides you with a more realistic view of your behaviours and allows you to begin moving towards well-being.
