Abuse

Abuse is something that affects many people across the world. There is no limit to the amount of cruelty that we can suffer at the hands of another person, as has been seen time and time again. Abuse can come in many forms, and each carries with it consequences for both the abuser and their victim. No two cases are exactly the same, but it is important to understand that you are not alone.

Often times an abusive situation occurs in childhood. These feelings and memories can be buried deep within us, an attempt by our inner child to protect us from experiencing the pain and hurt. You may be unsure as to whether or not what you are experiencing is a memory, and that is why it is important to seek out a professional that can help you process your thoughts and feelings.

Abuse can be the root causes of thoughts, emotions, and behaviours that you have after the initial abuse has occurred. Abuse can lead you to choose substances as a way to cope. It is not uncommon for someone that suffers with an addiction to be the victim of an abusive situation either currently or previously. This is why therapy is such an important part of recovery. Therapy can help you process the events of your life and show how they are linked to your current thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Together we can work towards developing a new way to cope with these thoughts, emotions and behaviors that is constructive rather than self destructive.

Abuse is a life changing experience, but you do not have to be alone. It may feel like you are the one responsible for what happened, but you are not. You are the victim. You are the one that was wronged. We can work together to bring back your power and let you regain control of your life. I want to help you feel empowered and unafraid to face the challenges that life has set out for you. Together we can bring about change and healing, allowing you to move forward with your life and taking back the power that was taken from you.
